One of EU’s cultural and creative co-location centres will be based in Suvilahti

KOY Kaapelitalo has participated as a lead partner in the winning ICE (Innovation by Creative Economy) consortium on European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s call on founding a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the field of cultural and creative sectors and industries.

The Northern European co-location centre of the new initiative will be located on the company's premises in Suvilahti cultural centre in Helsinki. The other co-location centres will be located in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bologna, Košice and Vienna. They bring together creative stakeholders from their respective region representing education, research and business. The new KIC will start during the spring of 2023 and it will channel hundreds of millions of euros EU funding to boost innovation activities in the cultural and creative sectors.

- It is great to have one of the creative and cultural co-location centers in Helsinki! The rapidly developing Suvilahti district is already a hub for the creative and cultural industry. Suvilahti offers a great base for the new center, and the center in turn makes Suvilahti even more international”, explaines Kai Huotari, the CEO of Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo, who has been following the application process closely from the beginning.
